By the building entrance, a reception space is added. The space is enclosed by a set of Chinese style screen doors. A new rectangular building is added to the south of the courtyard. It functions as a tea and reading room. Twelve pivot doors opened to the internal courtyard to encourage the flow of indoor and outdoor space.
The addition of this new building made the courtyard narrower which falls to the original meaning of Chinese “SkyWell”. The sun and natural light shining through the sky well and reflects on to the building elevation on both sides. The buildings on either side of this sky well have one way slopped roof towards the light well. When rains, the light well collects water and has a good wishful meaning of prosperity.
